Vortighern è un cacciatore di draghi. Tra nebbie, foreste e promontori spazzati da venti gelidi, riecheggia il frastuono della guerra combattuta tra dèi del Nord e numi del Sud. Una guerra che, a distanza di secoli, lui e gli altri cacciatori hanno fatto propria per estirpare gli ultimi draghi e, con essi, il soprannaturale dal mondo. Ma la sventura travolgerà la sua vita. Costretto a fuggire dalla terra nativa, Vortighern cercherà una cura per riscattare l'anima, ma si troverà catapultato in una serie di lotte al potere tra soldati di ventura e orde barbare, legionari e assassini, sacerdoti ambiziosi e stregoni in esilio, inseguito da un uomo che, come l'acciaio, vive soltanto del sangue che riesce a far scorrere. Scoprirà che i suoi simili sono più spietati dei draghi.

Vortighern is a dragons' hunter. Among mists, forests and headlands blown by icy winds, still resonates the noise of the war fought between gods of the Nord and divinities of the South. A war that, after centuries, he and the other hunters have embraced to eradicate the last dragons and, with them, the supernatural from the world. But the bad luck will overwhelm his life. Forced to escape from his native land, Vortighern will look for a cure to redeem his soul, but he will be catapulted into a series of battles between mercenaries and barbarian hordes, legionnaires and assassins, ambitious priests and sorcerers in exile, pursued by a man that, as the steel, lives only with blood that flows. Vortighern will discover that people are more cruel than dragons.

Il ciclo fantasy "Ivory & Blood" nasce dalla penna dell'italiano Alfonso Zarbo, già autore della saga epica di Ivengral e di molti racconti imperniati sull'avventura, l'esoterismo e il mito. Mattia Zoanni (suoi lavori in Mytico, Crossover) ci dona la sua interpretazione del cacciatore di draghi Vortighern con graphic novels dalle tinte accese e sanguigne, in un sapiente dosaggio di azione, tormento, ironia, seduzione e atmosfere pulp sulla scia dei grandi maestri Robert Ervin Howard e Mike Mignola.

Nelle foreste al di là del Mare Notturno, Vortighern insegue Bleda, un mercenario nelle cui vene scorre il sangue dei barbari. Per colpa di una maledizione condividono lo stesso potere, ma Vortighern vuole estirparlo come veleno da una ferita aperta. Il sole svela ai suoi occhi obelischi neri e teschi nelle pozze torbide. Quali esseri si aggirano nella giungla? Toccherà alle spade d'avorio scoprirlo.
In the forests beyond the Nocturne Sea, Vortighern chases Bleda, a mercenary through whose veins flows the blood of the barbarians. Because of a curse, they share the same power, but Vortighern wants to eradicate it as poison from a wound. The sun unveils black obelisks and skulls in muddy ponds. Which creatures wander in the jungle? Only the swords can discover it.
